Should you buy one?

The Polestar 2 is a decent electric car and adds welcome variety to the premium electric saloon segment. Its closest direct rivals today are the BYD Seal, Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4. But the competition will swell in the coming years as premium brands release new EVs of a similar type.

We’d certainly recommend taking a look at the 2 if you value interior quality above all else. But ultimately it’s difficult to recommend as the Tesla Model 3 represents better value for money as it’s cheaper and will further on a charge, the BMW i4 feels like a better resolved product that is both better to drive and more comfortable, and the excellent BYD Seal represents a middle path between the two.

What we like

The Polestar 2 looks fantastic both inside and out and is a brilliant example of simple design done well. Its Google infotainment system is delightfully simple to use and the range is spot on too.

What we don’t like

The ride quality is harsh and uncomfortable, especially for rear seat passengers. Rear headroom isn’t the best, plus the charging infrastructure is miles behind what you get with the Tesla Model 3.
