Peugeot e-3008 boot space, practicality and safety

2023 onwards (change model)
Practicality rating: 3 out of 53.0

  • More than enough space upfront
  • But room in the boot isn’t great for taller passengers
  • Boot is massive and easy to load

How much space is there?

The new Peugeot 3008 has grown in size compared to its predecessor, at 4.5m long is now 10cm longer than the old car. You might expect that the result is a car that feels far more spacious, but when it comes to rear-seat space, that isn’t the case at all.

Taller adults sat in the rear might feel a bit hemmed in, with limited legroom if sat behind someone in the front with the seat quite far back, while headroom with the optional panoramic sunroof is quite compromised as well. Given this is designed as a family SUV, it’s a little disappointing, and there are far roomier options in this class – the Skoda Enyaq being one of the more impressive.

‘Up front, it’s spacious and comfortable. I found the rear head and legroom pretty disappointing, though, and I also felt quite hemmed in.’

On a more positive note, the rear seats each fold down individually and upfront, there’s a fantastic storage box to the left of the centre console that opens with a cool metal toggle. Elements like this help separate the 3008 from its cheaper-feeling rivals.

Boot space and storage

While Peugeot might have seemed to have compromised on rear-seat space, it hasn’t on the boot. At 588 litres, the boot is a great size considering it’s now accommodating a big battery beneath the boot floor, which it wasn’t before. Folding the rear seats increases the load area to 1,663 litres.

There’s a height-adjustable boot floor too, with space beneath to keep any charging cables out of the way. The boot itself is a useful size, but lacks some of the clever storage areas you get with the Enyaq, for example.

Though an electric boot is included, it’s only available on the top-spec GT model, with the Allure having a manual tailgate instead. It can be quite heavy to open without any electrical assistance too as it’s quite a significant slab of metal.

The Peugeot e-3008's boot space is surprisingly impressive, given the size of the batteries beneath the floor.
The Peugeot e-3008’s boot boasts a useful 588 litres of space, and is nicely shaped for carrying awkward loads.

Is it easy to park?

Despite growing in size, the e-3008 is still an easy car to park. Visibility is largely good throughout, though the coupe-like design means there’s a noticeable blind spot in the car’s C-pillar.

That said, a reversing camera is included as standard, which can even rotate if you have the steering on full lock. Light steering means it’s easy to manoeuvre too, but watch out for those intricate alloy wheels as they will likely be expensive to repair if they ever get kerb damage.

Safety

  • Yet to be tested by Euro NCAP
  • Plenty of standard safety kit
  • Adaptive cruise control isn’t standard

Safety organisation Euro NCAP is yet to get its hands on the new Peugeot 3008, so it’s currently without a rating. The level of safety kit is reasonable, with mandatory lane keep assist, driver attention alert, autonomous emergency braking and speed limit recommendation included.

It’s disappointing that adaptive cruise control and front parking sensors aren’t included as standard on a mid-size SUV carrying such a hefty price tag, however, as you’ll need the top-spec GT for that. This trim does bring advanced Pixel LED headlights, though.
